Facebook is good for a lot of things: procrastinating, spying on your friends from high school, reminding you of birthdays you would otherwise forget…
But Facebook has secrets. Hidden tools you can use for your Business Pages. And they don’t only tell you how many likes you have; they give you detailed, time stamped data on who likes your page, who engages with your page, what time of day and what day of the week your Fans are online. It tells you when to post and what to post.
Here is a tool we use on Facebook everyday to be sure we are posting the appropriate content to the appropriate people. Note that you can ONLY access this data with a Business Page. (If you have “friends”, then you do not have a Business page.)
From a desktop, log into your Facebook Business Account and then click Insights in the top left and then below that click People.
A chart will come up showing you the age and gender of the people who currently like your page. It will look something like this:
Whoa!! Right? We know. There is so much more, too, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
This specific chart gives you so much info that you can use not only for Facebook, but also for all of your other advertising endeavors as well. Is your page mostly men? Then communicate with stories and info about your business that men would like. Running a contest? Give away a gift card to somewhere men generally like to eat or shop. Is your page mostly 20-somethings? Then know that they generally communicate with images much more than just words, so post with as many good pictures as possible. Deciding if you should take out an ad in a new magazine, on the radio, etc.? Use this info to match up the demographics to make the best choices for your ad purchases.
We check these demographics monthly and recommend you do the same. They change, especially if you have a big month with new likes.
But you don’t have to do it on your own! We have an array of services for the Do-It-Yourselfers and the I-Don’t-Have-Timers so that your brand doesn’t go unnoticed. Everyone (well mostly everyone) is shopping and researching online prior to purchasing, whether it’s a house, a dishwasher, a new pet, a hotel room, or their next meal, and they want to get a good impression of what to expect with your company. You can use these free tools that Facebook offers to help you project an image that will be most engaging to your fans.
